The Challenge
As part of their digital transformation strategy, Waters was considering a move to SAP RISE to embrace the cloud. However, cost was a major hurdle in securing project approval. A financial analysis revealed that the transition could only be justified if they could reduce their system size by 40% before migrating.
Recognizing the complexity of this challenge, they initially engaged SAP to explore optimization strategies. SAP, in turn, brought Auritas into the project to leverage its expertise in data volume management, archiving, and system optimization, key components in ensuring a cost-effective and seamless migration to SAP RISE.
The Solution
Auritas initiated the project with a Data Volume Management (DVM) workshop, educating stakeholders on the benefits of data optimization, archiving, and system rightsizing for SAP RISE migration. The first step was a Data Volume Assessment (DVA), which provided a clear roadmap by identifying archiving opportunities and system optimization strategies.
To ensure a cost-effective and timely migration, Auritas implemented a phased approach. The first phase focused on technical data, a low-risk starting point that enabled immediate progress and accelerated the overall project timeline. By tackling technical data first, the company was able to begin preparations for SAP RISE without delays, ensuring a smooth transition.
Auritas successfully implemented 9 distinct archiving objects across 4 SAP systems, demonstrating a structured, meticulous strategy that laid the groundwork for broader data transition efforts. This strategic approach not only reduced system size but also ensured that the company surpassed its 40% reduction target, making the move to SAP RISE both feasible and financially justified.
As the final step in the DVM engagement, Auritas implemented Data ASSIST, an automated data archiving and scheduling tool. This solution not only gives insights into their database, but helps the company maintain a rightsized system even after migration, ensuring that cost savings and performance optimizations remain long-term in SAP RISE.
